REDWOOD CITY PAGE#1

Redwood City is in the heart of silicon valley, half way between San Jose and San Francisco.  During the gold rush period one and a half centuries ago, Redwood City's deep water port and nearby redwood groves helped to build the new city of San Francisco.(History of the Port of Redwood City) Long before then in the mists of antiquity, this now obscure inland waterway invited other seafarers and has been the home to many first Americans.   The Penutian-Maya in their migration southward also found this port inviting and from the archeological evidence presented on this web site, it appears they maintained a trading colony at this location until the time of conquest.  What follows are artifacts found by chance and for the most part, they have been surface finds.  The sites where these artifacts were found are in jeopardy of being destroyed and need to be properly excavated by archeologist.  The sites historical preservation is one of the reasons this web sit exists.
